| Title | Short-Term Clinical Outcomes of Patients with Diabetic Macular Edema Following a Therapy Switch to Faricimab |
| Purpose | We investigated short-term clinical outcomes in patients with diabetic macular edema (DME) after switching to intravitreal Faricimab (IVF). |
| Methods | A retrospective chart review was conducted on DME patients who showed insufficient responses to prior therapy and were switched to IVF. Data included patient demographics, medical history, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central retinal thickness (CRT) and central retinal volume (CRV). Functional and structural changes were analyzed, Faricimab responders and reduced responders were compared and factors influencing follow-up BCVA and CRT were assessed. |
| Results | 25 eyes from 16 patients were included. After switching to IVF, mean BCVA showed no improvement, changing from 59.4±13.4 to 61.4±12.8 ETDRS letters (p=0.26). CRT reduced from 414.4±126.3 µm to 353.3±131.1 µm (p<0.011) and CRV decreased from 2.8±0.5 mm³ to 2.6±0.6 mm³ (p<0.012). Seven patients met responder criteria with at least a 5 ETDRS letter gain and 30 µm CRT reduction. Higher baseline BCVA (p<0.001) was associated with better BCVA post-IVF and higher baseline CRT (p<0.003), greater number of prior anti-VEGF agents (p<0.034) and prior corticosteroid injections (p<0.019) were linked to greater CRT at follow-up. |
| Conclusion | Following the initial IVF series, anatomical improvements were observed, though no significant functional improvement was noted, with visual acuity remaining stable. Baseline BCVA, CRT, number of prior anti-VEGF agents and corticosteroid injections influenced post-IVF outcomes. |
