Title Estimation of procedural free time interval in a 6-year retrospective cohort of patients between combined phacoemulsification with iSTENT® and trabeculectomy
PurposeThis retrospective study aims to explore the impact of a combined phacoemulsification with iSTENT® placement for glaucoma patients. The objective is to retrospectively evaluate from 2018 to 2024 in a cohort of patients the time interval between combined phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy surgery in patients eligible for a conventional close trabeculectomy scheme after combined phacoemulsification.
MethodsWe examined our medical files from 2018 to 2024, study criteria were defined.
Inclusion criteria : Temporal criterion (2018-2024); having undergone trabeculectomy and of having undergone a combined phacoemulsification and microinvasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) with iSTENT® placement.
Exclusion criteria : Having undergone trabeculectomy prior to combined phacoemulsification; having undergone multiple MIGS procedures; and having received a stent other than iSTENT®.
Data processing will consist of calculating the mean time and the mean deviation in patients who underwent combined phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy surgery.
ResultsAll patients included had mild to advanced glaucoma with concomitant cataract. Only 16 patients (7 women and 9 men) with a mean age of 63 +/- 9 years required trabeculectomy, with a mean interval of 23 +/- 18 months between the two procedures.
ConclusionIn conclusion, our retrospective study enabled us to quantify, in a cohort spanning 6 years, a procedure-free time interval of 23 +/- 18 months in patients who were eligible for conventional close trabeculectomy after combined phacoemulsification with iSTENT®. This result is of the utmost importance, particularly for moderate and advanced patients with progressive disease for whom direct trabeculectomy is required.
