TitreImpact of Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty: fellow eye involvement and the impact of lens status
ButImpact of Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty on Intraocular Pressure in the Fellow Eye: Influence of Pseudophakia, Phakia, and Prior Capsulotomy
MéthodesA retrospective review of 71 patients who underwent SLT, including 42 pseudophakic (17 with prior capsulotomy) and 29 phakic, was conducted. IOP measurements were recorded at follow-ups of approximately 2.8, 7.1, 12.2, 17.6, 23.1, and 30.4 weeks. IOP reductions were analyzed across groups comparing phakic vs. pseudophakic and capsulotomy vs. non-capsulotomy patients.
RésultatsSLT resulted in significant IOP reductions in treated and fellow eyes, regardless of lens status or capsulotomy (p < 0.001). Pseudophakic eyes showed faster, more substantial IOP reductions than phakic eyes, particularly at 7.1 and 17.6 weeks. Differences between phakic and pseudophakic eyes diminished over time, with similar stabilization at later follow-ups. Capsulotomy minimally influenced IOP reduction, though capsulotomy-treated eyes demonstrated slightly better consistency over time. Non-capsulotomy patients showed better stabilization in the treated fellow eye.
ConclusionPseudophakic patients experience faster IOP reductions post-SLT, but long-term outcomes are similar across lens statuses. Capsulotomy does not significantly impact IOP outcomes, though it may provide minor stabilization benefits. Importantly, the fellow eye also experiences significant IOP reduction even without direct treatment, highlighting a systemic effect of SLT independent of lens status. SLT remains effective across diverse patient populations, with follow-up strategies best tailored based on lens status.
