TitreThe importance of pinhole examination ‘amblyopic’ eyes
ButWe present a case of a boy of 6 years old, who was diagnosed with amblyopia caused by unilateral congenital cataract and he had he had yearly check-ups by an ophthalmologist. Seventy years later, he consulted our private practice, because of visual impairment of the other eye caused by an incipient cataract.
MéthodesFull ophthalmological examination revealed a nuclear cataract in both eyes, more pronounced in the amblyopic right eye, in which the visual acuity increased to 20/60 (0.3) with a pine hole.
RésultatsBecause the right eye did not appear to suffer from amblyopia, a cataract operation was performed with implantation of a bifocal IOL, resulting in a visual acuity of 20/25 (0.8) without correction. After phacoemulsification, the left eye reached 20/20 (1.0).
ConclusionOur case may illustrate the importance of pinhole examination in ‘amblyopic’ eyes. Our final aim is avoid any harms to the patient for the best medical outcome
