| Titre | Double-headed pterygium surgery: combining diamond burr polishing with simultaneous conjunctival autograft |
| But | This poster aims to review the outcomes of a split-conjunctival graft technique combined with corneal diamond burr polishing for the management of double-headed pterygia. |
| Méthodes | We describe a case series of 4 eyes of 3 patients with double-headed pterygia. All pterygia were excised using a simultaneous conjunctival autograft splitting technique combined with corneal diamond burr polishing. |
| Résultats | All three patients had an improvement of the corneal astigmatism with a 10/10 vision postoperatively. The conjunctiva healed within 5 weeks of the surgery without complications. One patient developed a vertical diplopia postoperatively. Orthoptic assessment showed a slight hypertropia of the left eye and a torticollis. A prism was prescribed. |
| Conclusion | If sufficient healthy conjunctiva is available, a split-conjunctival autograft is an efficient way to treat a symptomatic double-headed pterygium. When combined with diamond burr polishing, we can achieve an excellent cosmesis, a low recurrence rate, a significant reduction in astigmatism and thus an optimal refractive outcome. |
