TitreIdiopathic pigmented vitreous cyst: case report and literature overview
Abstract Nr.1030
ButTo report a patient with an unilateral symptomatic idiopathic pigmented and free-floating vitreous cyst on the left eye, before and after surgical intervention.
MéthodesPatient examination included anamnesis, vision acuity, biomicroscopy, fundus photographs, ultrasound B-scan and OCT scan. Due to the visually disturbing effect of the vitreous cyst, a 27G fine needling biopsy and a vitrectomy were performed. Histopathological analysis of the cyst was done.
RésultatsPostoperative the patient was free of complains and her vision improved from LogMar 0.5 to LogMar 0.0. Histopathological investigation showed a pigment-epithelial-type tissue.
ConclusionIdiopathic vitreous cysts are rare ophthalmological findings and their origin is still on debate. They can be classified as either congenital or acquired. The latter is associated with trauma, inflammatory or ocular diseases. Asymptomatic cases can be observed without intervention. Treatment options for symptomatic patients, as for this case, include vitrectomy and fine needling aspiration biopsy. Laser photocystotomy is not preferred because of the possibility of haze after treatment.
