Titel | Combining a monofocal with an EDOF IOL: Is there an improvement in quality of vision after cataract surgery over bilateral monofocal IOL implantation? |
Doel | To determine whether combining a monofocal intraocular lens (IOL) with an extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) IOL results in an increased quality of vision over standard bilateral monofocal IOL implantation after cataract surgery. |
Methodes | 82 patients will be recruited with bilateral cataract without concomitant ocular disease or prior ocular surgery. They will be randomized into a bilateral monofocal IOL group or a monofocal-EDOF IOL combination group. This will be a double-blinded trial. Three months after surgery, reading speed at 60cm will be compared between the two groups, a quality of vision questionnaire will be presented to and optical aberrations, depth-of-focus, stereopsis, contrast sensitivity and residual astigmatism will be measured in all participants. |
Resultaten | We expect similar quality of vision between the two groups for distance vision, however, better functional intermediate vision can be expected in the combination group with an improved quality of vision in daily life. Furthermore, we want to determine if there is a difference in outcome between EDOF IOL implantation in the dominant eye or the non-dominant eye. |
Conclusie | Adding a unilateral EDOF IOL might add functional intermediate vision and increase quality of life after cataract surgery. However, we did not find any similar published studies in our literature review. To our knowledge this is the first trial in progress that investigates the effect of eye dominance in this IOL combination. This poster will present the entire protocol for peer review. |
