Titel | The effect of 'mini-monovision' on stereoscopic vision |
Doel | To study the impact of so-called ‘mini-monovision’ after bilateral Enhanced Depth Of Focus (EDOF) intraocular lens (IOL) implantation on visual acuity (VA) and stereoscopic vision at different distances. |
Methodes | We performed a retrospective study that included patients who received a bilateral implantation of an EDOF-IOL (type EMV, Rayner) with a mini-monovision. Post-operatively, stereoscopic vision was measured with the synoptophore and the Randot distance test for far, and the Titmus test and TNO test for near, with and without optical correction that annulled the monovision state. Near, intermediate and distance visual acuity was measured with and without optical correction, monocular and binocular. |
Resultaten | 6 patients aged between 63 and 84 years (mean age 71.17 years) were studied who received a bilateral implantation of an EDOF-IOL (type EMV, Rayner) with post-operatively a mini-monovision with a mean difference of subjective refraction of -0.42 dioptres between both eyes. Uncorrected distance, intermediate and near visual acuity was better binocularly than monocularly (p-values < 0.05). For stereoscopic vision, no statistically significant difference was withheld with and without optical correction that annulled the monovision state (p-values > 0.05). |
Conclusie | A mini-monovision of a mean amplitude of 0.40 dioptres obtained with binocular implantation of EDOF-IOLs results in a good uncorrected binocular amplitude of VA from far to intermediate distances and does not significantly disturb stereoscopic vision. |
