Titel | Topo- and wavefront-guided surface ablations with the Zyoptix |
Abstract Nr. | A2018 |
Doel | To evaluate the Zyoptix (Bausch&Lomb) system for PRK. Setting: Brussels Vision Clinic , Brussels |
Methodes | This observational case study was conducted on 40 eyes (21 patients) with myopia and compound myopic astigmatism. A complete ophthalmic examination was performed, including corneal topography with the Orbscan Iiz (Bausch&Lomb) and wavefront analysis with the Zywave aberrometer (Bausch&Lomb). Treatment was planned using the Zylink software and PRK was performed by the same surgeon, using the Technolas 217z laser (Bausch&Lomb). Patients were followed at least for 6 months. Main reason to perform PRK was a thin cornea. |
Resultaten | Mean preoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.89+/-0.21 (range 0.4 to 1.2) in decimal equivalent. Mean postoperative BCVA at 6 months was 1.0 +/- 0.27 (range 0.5 to 1.5). Mean preoperative uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) was 0.14 +/- 0.06 (range 0.1 to 0.3). Postoperative UCVA was 10.51 +/-1.18 (range 0.50 to 1.5). Mean preoperative spherical equivalent (SE) was –4.60 Diopters (D) +/- 2.08 D (range – 1.98 D to – 7.25D); mean postoperative SE was 0.051 D +/- 0.25D (range –0.50D to 1.25 D). No eye lost one line of BCVA. Haze formation was minimal. Postoperative aberrations were reduced. |
Conclusie | Wavefront- and topography-guided PRK seems a valuable tool to correct myopia and compound myopic astigmatism. It could be an alternative to Lasik, specially when dealing with thin corneas. It avoids the risk of flap-induced aberrations. |
