Title | Electroretinographic Findings in Patients with Posterior Microphthalmos |
Abstract Nr. | P015 |
Purpose | To analyze electroretinographic findings in patients with posterior microphthalmos (PM). |
Methods | Seventeen patients (34 eyes) with PM underwent complete ophthalmic examination and full-field flash electroretinography (ERG) according to the ISCEV standard protocol. |
Results | Twelve eyes (35.3%) with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and 8 eyes (23.5%) with uveal effusion had reduced scotopic and photopic ERG amplitudes. Reduction of scotopic ERG amplitudes was of approximately 75% in the eyes with RP and 35% in 4 eyes with pseudo-RP due to uveal effusion. |
Conclusion | ERG is useful in differentiating between true RP and pseudo-RP and in monitoring visual function in patients with PM. |
